Academic Awards:
In last year's Matric Examinations, Ellis once again excelled in its results, with Stephen Crookes obtaining 4 A's, Santosh Naidoo 5 A's, Brendan Murphy 5 A's and Matthew Gray 6 A's.
Last year's Std. 9 exams also proved to be rather successful with Bryce Perrett (Our Head of House) and myself (Adrian Hinds) obtaining Academic Colours with 4 A's each. The C Dorm Cops, Mike Alexander and Shane Fainsinger followed close behind with 3 A's each as did Matthew Moxham (A Dorm Cop), just short of the Academic Colours requirements. So to all the New Boy's parents, feel safe that your sons are in capable and astute care. They're clever, they is...
Sporting Awards:
Ellis has a strong sporting tradition, producing legends of Cricket, James Alexander and Tim Drummond (who is now playing County Cricket in the UK, not including his Captaincy of the u18A South Africa Hockey side) and currently we have two sport captains in Ellis. Bryce Perrett is the Captain of swimming and Nick Rowlinson is the Captain of both the Golf and Cricket team.
Nick Rowlinson recently received the Senior Inter-House Cricket for trophy, as the Captain of the Ellis team.
Ellis has already won the Senior Inter-House Cricket, the Inter-House Relay Gala, And Bryce Perrett picked up the Senior Victor Lodorum and Adrian Hinds the Open 100m Freestyle trophy.
Regarding Golf, Nick Rowlinson led the Hilton team to a 3rd successive victory over Michaelhouse in the Douglas Cup which took place last weekend (9/03/08).
(25/05/08) - Bryce Perrett has been elected as the Captain of the First XV Rugby Team who have had a very successful season thus far, unfortunately being pipped by Michaelhouse, but edging out Kearsney in the latest drama on the hallowed ground of Gilfillan. Accompanying him in the First XV is Jonothan Gilbert, Matthew Moxham Lloyd Rogers and Emil Schwarz, the first standard 8 to play First Team for a long time, and Shane Fainsinger, a recent addition.
Sam Stanley have been First XI Hockey Team stalwarts for a while now and have had a relatively good season, but in anything, there's always something to improve upon.
Cultural Awards:
Bryce Perrett has again excelled by obtaining Cultural Colours for debating, with myself following early this year with Cultural Colours for music. Doubtless there will be further opportunities for excellence later on in the year, but let us get there first.
Ellis has shown itself to be a talented Debating House, and Nda Masimula, Frankie Maritz, Chris Wood and Bryce Perrett have managed to secure several awards as best speakers.
